Skills Classes
In the Skills Classes, the students focus on particular aspects of performance and/or production under their teachers' guidance. The students' ideas inspire the final showcase--from selecting material to creating stories, props and costumes.
We are looking for: good team players, movie fans, avid readers, sports fans, brainiacs, shy kids, pirates, princesses and born performers – anyone and everyone who has ever imagined their own adventure!
What you will need: your body, your voice, and your imagination!
These classes draw on students’ strengths and abilities for every aspect of the final production. Students will focus on bringing characters to life through creative movement, improvisation and text. They will explore dramatic structure as they write their own play to perform for families and friends on the last day of class. They will also create most costumes, props or set pieces they might need.
SATURDAY OPTIONS:
Core Acting: Act 1 (Ages 4 - 6 - Students will be further subdivided by age)
Dates: Feb. 12 - Apr. 23, 2011

Core Acting: Act 2 (Ages 7 - 9 - Students will be further subdivided by age)

- NEW!
Under the guidance of Art Ornelas and Amelia Rico, the resident videographers for Kids On Stage, students will collaborate on a short film to be screened at MST – Chelsea Market. Students will work on every aspect of the film, from script to storyboard to acting to editing.
Ages: High School (Middle school students may be accepted after interview)
Dates: Feb. 12 - Apr. 23, 2011
Days and Times: Saturdays, 1 - 4pm
Screening: To be scheduled by the class
Location: MST - Chelsea Market
Fee: $300 (includes all materials)
Class Limit: 10 Students

Rehearsal and Performance Classes
We offer two types of Rehearsal & Performance (R&P) classes - R&P Lab and R&P By Audition. Both are directed by experienced professionals, both put on a performance at the end of the rehearsal process, and both require learning lines outside of class. In the R&P Lab class, everyone who signs up will have at least one role in the final performance for family and friends. In the R&P By Audition class, everyone who is cast will do 3 performances open to the public. There are no prerequisites for either type of class. Choose the level of your challenge!

Audition: No audition necessary. Just sign up! Everyone in the class will have a role (or several) in the play.

Adapted by Jonathan Gonzalez from Shakespeare's Comedy of Errors
Join Kids On Stage as we embark on a high-speed romp through Shakespeare’s classic farce of shipwrecked separations and mistaken identity. Twin servants and twin masters separated at birth plus colorful confused characters leads to wrongful beatings, wrongful arrest, wrongful seduction, and wrongful exorcism—in short, hilarity! Students will use techniques from the Italian commedia dell’arte and classic American comedy—and their own sense of play—to perform an abridged, updated version of Shakespeare’s Comedy of Errors. Part comedy class, part Shakespeare study, all fun!
Ages: 12 - 18
Auditions: Monday and Wednesday, Feb. 21 and 23, 2011, from 4:15 - 6:15pm (No reservation necessary. You do not need to prepare anything. Attend 1 day. Parent signature is required at the beginning of the audition.)
Rehearsal Dates: Feb. 28 – May 6, 2011
Rehearsal Days and Times: Mon. & Wed., 4:15 - 6:15pm
Performance: Fri. – Sun., May 6 – 8, 2011
Location: MST - Chelsea Market (Auditions, rehearsals and performances)
Fee: $275 (There is no fee to audition.)
