MST Ambassador Program

MST Ambassador Program

The MST Ambassador Program is a chance for our young artists not only to perform but also to participate in community events and interact with the public. Ambassadors may also meet the authors of the stories they are working on! Sometimes we write and perform original works; sometimes adapt books into a theatrical format such as a play or staged reading. Main Street Ambassadors have performed at MST galas, Capital Campaign events, The Houston Public Library, and Brazos Bookstore. A filmed production of the original adaptation of the Benny Bear Books is featured in Children’s Hospitals in Houston to educate children on health issues. Some of the authors with whom the young ambassadors have met include Jon Scieszka (The Stinky Cheese Man), Jennifer Holm (the Babymouse series), and Jonathan Safran-Foer (Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close).

Being an Ambassador is more than just performing and is not for everyone. Our Ambassadors are the face of Main Street Theater in the community and are expected to act professionally and have curiosity, a flexible schedule, a mature disposition, and an expressive voice and body, able to project in non-traditional theater spaces such as public libraries.

Ambassadors work hard, but the rewards are big. Not only do they develop as performers, but they also develop valuable life skills!
