Employment & Volunteering

Do you like working with kids? Are you a teacher? A teaching artist? Does the idea of serving as a mentor to children in a creative and collaborative environment appeal to you? If you answered yes, Main Street Theater is looking for you to join our team! We are always hiring fun, experienced, and engaging teaching artists to help kids create their own play, their own dance, and sometimes to make simple props and costumes. We hire hourly, part-time positions year-round, for in-house classes during the school year, arts-integration programs during the school day and for after-school programs, and winter, spring break, and summer camps lasting from one day to three weeks! Must be at least 18, have a car, and a flexible schedule. Class days and times vary depending on the specific residency.

Please send an email with letter of intent and a resume to jonathan@mainstreettheater.com. All positions are paid. Some teaching applicants may be asked to do an “audition” on a later date after the initial interview.

Teaching Assistant Opportunities

Our teaching assistants (TA’s) work closely with our teachers to provide the best experience for our students. Teaching assistants form strong bonds with the students and are their closest mentors. Theater, teaching, and childcare experience are recommended but not required.

Why should you be a TA for Main Street Theater?

  • You are at least 16 years old and have an interest in theater and arts education.
  • You have an interest in teaching and/or working with children and helping them create their own play, dance, and prop pieces.

  • You love children and have patience and an ability to collaborate with them.
  • You have good organizational and time management skills.
  • You possess initiative and an ability to think on your feet.
  • You are mature and focused.
  • You have a flexible schedule and reliable transportation.

Our Apprentices work-year round with us in our office and in our in-house classes and camps under our teaching assistants. These volunteer positions are available to applicants 15 years old and up. You may report to a teaching assistant, teacher, site director, or to the Assistant Director or Director of Education. Apprentices may assist in administrative work, assisting a camp site director, or directly assist in the classroom, according to the applicant’s interest and/or skill set. We are looking for dependable and punctual people with initiative and enthusiasm.
