Main Street Theater is committed to ensuring that our productions are accessible to everyone.

For more information, or if you need assistance or an accommodation not mentioned below, please call the Box Office at 713.524.6706 for all public performances.

Theater for Youth


Accessible performances include Audio Description and Support, American Sign Language and Sensory-Friendly/Relaxed performances.

Sensory Friendly iconThese Sensory-Friendly/Relaxed performances will provide children and their families an opportunity to attend a performance modified to meet sensory needs giving access to live theater to ALL children.

Each performance offered as Sensory-Friendly will incorporate the following changes:

  • Increased lighting in the house/seats throughout the performance
  • Lower sound levels
  • Additional trained staff on hand to provide patrons with assistance when needed
  • Electronic devices such as tablets or smart phones may be used throughout the performance with headphones
  • Prompt books for family members to prepare for the show
  • Fidget toys are welcome

All tickets are offered at a special rate. Just choose “Accommodations Performance” from the dropdown menu when you are purchasing your tickets.

Audio DescribedThe theater is equipped with Listen Technologies to help patrons who require additional audio support in performances. Patrons can request use of an assisted hearing device. They will be given a receiver with three options for earphones:

The device will have a lanyard to which the patrons can wrap around their neck so they don’t have to hold it during the performance. Each device has adjustable volume control.

You will need to have a valid ID, driver’s license, or credit card when borrowing a unit. Units are available at both public and school performances.

ASL Performance iconSign language interpretation is scheduled for select Main Street Theater performances throughout the season.

Shadow Interpreted Performance – October 14, 2018

Low Vision iconAudio description is scheduled for select Main Street Theater performances throughout the season. Using a single earpiece connected to an infrared headset, patrons who are blind or have low vision can listen to trained audio describers give live, verbal descriptions of actions, costumes, scenery, and other visual elements of a performance.

All tickets are offered at a special rate. Just choose “Accommodations Performance” from the dropdown menu when you are purchasing your tickets.

Accessible Drop-off iconDisabled drop off can be accommodated on the Travis side of the building before and after performances.

The theater has wheelchair- and scooter-accessible locations where patrons can remain in their wheelchairs or transfer to theater seats. Patrons who cannot or do not wish to transfer from their wheelchairs to a theater seat should request wheelchair-accessible locations when ordering tickets.

Accessibility for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing

Audio AssistanceThe theater is equipped with Listen Technologies to help patrons who require additional audio support in performances. Patrons can request use of an assisted hearing device. They will be given a receiver with three options for earphones:

The theater is also equipped with a hearing loop system that will work with qualified hearing aids.

You will need to have a valid ID, driver’s license, or credit card when borrowing a unit. Units are available at both public and school performances.

Open Captioning Open Captioning

Main Street Theater also provides open “in-sync” captioning for selected performances. At captioned performances, text is displayed in line-of-sight on an electronic LED board showing what the actors are saying.
